Dunkirk Memorial House

Dunkirk Memorial House in Taunton is one of The Royal British Legion’s Care Homes, with a specialist Dementia care wing. Like every one of the Legion's Care Homes, we are exclusive to the Armed Forces community and their dependants.

Dunkirk Memorial House is situated close to the village of Bishops Lydeard, eight miles from the bustling town of Taunton, Somerset. It is set in acres of landscaped gardens, between the Quantock and Brendon Hills, and accommodates up to 90 residents in spacious rooms, all of which have en-suite facilities. Residents wishing to venture further afield can take advantage of the regular trips in our minibus to local towns and places of interest.

There’s a shared bond at Dunkirk Memorial House because each resident has an Armed Forces connection. It means there’s a team spirit and a feeling that everyone looks out for each other. The home goes the extra mile to make residents feel as comfortable as possible – after all, it’s their home. As well as the spacious lounges and beautiful gardens, there are plenty of places to sit and have a chat or enjoy the views over the Somerset countryside.

Residents are encouraged to continue their hobbies, or even try out something new. For example, there is a monthly Luncheon Club, as well as visits to gardens and the coast. The home also has indoor skittles, art and craft classes, armchair exercise sessions, social evenings in the bar, games of scrabble and cards, and books to borrow. There are several spacious lounges where residents can socialise or sit quietly and read. The home has a delightful Chapel with regular services, and a memorial garden for Remembrance services and quiet reflection.
