Troops at Recovery centre Colchester

Colchester PRC

Chavasse VC House is a new, purpose-built Personnel Recovery Centre in Colchester. Opened in May 2012, the centre provides first class facilities for wounded, injured and sick Service personnel and can accommodate up to 27 residents, including two families, and 30 day residents.

The Centre is funded by Help for Heroes, with the Legion contributing towards its running costs. The Centre includes training facilities, classrooms, and gymnasiums, with state-of-the-art sports equipment providing the residents with opportunities to learn new skills, gain qualifications, and make a smooth transition into civilian life or return to duty.

Veterans can also use the facilities and services at Chavasse VC House on a needs basis. A Support Hub, offering a 'one stop shop' of advice and support for residents, veterans and their families, provides access to the expertise of many welfare agencies, Service charities and organisations. This includes advice and guidance on a multitude of issues including finances, health, housing and social support.

Chavasse VC House was opened as part of the nationwide Ministry of Defence Defence Recovery Capability initiative, in partnership with Help for Heroes, the Legion and other Service charities and agencies. The initiative aims to ensure that wounded, injured and sick personnel have access to the key services and resources needed to help them return to duty or make a smooth transition into civilian life.
