Remembrance Travel for Schools and Young People

The Legion provides tours in Europe and the UK for schools and young people that bring the past to life. We believe that Remembrance can educate people about the realities of conflict, those affected by wars and the importance of peace.

As the national custodian of Remembrance, The Royal British Legion believes that Remembrance should be used to educate people about the realities of conflict, those that are affected by wars and the importance of peace.

Working with The Newmarket Group, we arrange tours across Europe and in the UK to give students and youth groups a direct and memorable experience of history and culture, tailored to their curriculum or interests. Each tour is led by one of our expert guides, many of whom are ex-Service men and women specially trained to guide, communicate and work with schools and young people.

Our tours are designed to bring the past to life. Our aim is that students understand the sites they visit not as monuments to people of the past, but as living memories to help us understand and reflect on the present. An Act of Remembrance is held during each tour.

With over 85 years of worldwide travel experience with the custodians of Remembrance, there are a number of reasons to choose Remembrance Travel:

  •      our tours are individually designed to suit the interests, abilities and faiths of the group
  •      we are committed to education through learning outside the classroom
  •      our experienced DBS-checked guides are fully trained to work with students and young people
  •      we meet the needs of the national curriculum

where we can take you

Our range of destinations is always growing, and we are currently offering tours in the UK, France, Belgium, Holland, Germany and Poland.

Tour durations vary from one day to four or five days, depending on where you want to go and your starting location in the UK.

Remembrance Travel for Schools and Young People is different from other operators in that our tours are totally flexible - you can specify what you want from your trip, and one of our experienced guides will then make all the arrangements for you, as well as lead the tour.

We will do everything we can to make sure your tour reflects the needs of your school, students and curriculum.

“Thank you for all your hard work in organising our trip to the WW1 Battlefields. It was a fantastic tour which the boys thoroughly enjoyed. We were particularly impressed with all of the support and high quality of the materials provided by the Legion. Furthermore, our guide was amazing. He had a great rapport with the boys which added to the overall success of the trip.” Forest Hill School

anniversary tours

With the Centenary of the First World War and other significant anniversaries, schools and groups are invited to book their tour to coincide with a significant commemoration.

By booking an anniversary tour, students and their school or group (cadets, guides, youth clubs, etc.) will be helping to keep the memories alive of the actual men and women that served and suffered all those years ago. The young people will be part of the future of Remembrance, not just observers of it.
Information about upcoming anniversaries are available on request.
